Did you know that 2018 massive floods in Kerala were followed by floods in the state in 2019 as well? Meeting people of Muttil village in Wayanad in 2019 we heard about the tough time they were facing as their bridge had collapsed due to landslides triggered by floods. This bridge meant a 2 kms shortcut between Chazhivayal and Ezhitharavayal.

The Trans-India Challenge drove from Mumbai; meeting our volunteers in Pune, our field in Solapur, processing work in Goonj Hyderabad and field activities Puri in Odisha ending the first leg of the Challenge. Next up, they will be travelling to Goonj office and field in Kolkata exploring our work in the region.
Prof. Alan and Pat are on a 30 day pan India journey on their Morgan 3 wheeler to raise funds and awareness about Goonj’s work.

Goonj’s work with the tribals of Saura of Odisha

The tribals of Saura of Kantagaon village in Gajapati District of Odisha have seen their land turn into a wasteland due to recurring landslides due to cyclones and floods. Over the years as little work was left, these disasters also led people to migrate for survival, leading to further neglect of the land. Our teams working in Odisha mobilised and motivated the tribals to find a way to revive their land.
