Over the years Climate change has brought a huge impact on our environment, with increasing amounts of waste, its mismanagement and reduced forest cover directly contributes to massive GHG emissions. As a negative impact on millions, we now see erratic weather patterns, increased natural disasters, etc. It is high time now we make a paradigm shift to innovative approaches to maximize material life cycles.

Goonj have been making efforts where we reduce, reuse, and recycle surplus/ waste material mostly textile (both pre-consumer and post-consumer) bringing exponential impact on the environment by minimizing the burden on landfills. This processed and customized material not only addresses material poverty but also used as a tool to mobilize, motivate, and enable people to build bridges, clean ponds, plant saplings, create private spaces for women, and reach relief to the disaster-affected. Goonj’s engagement with both the urban and rural population has galvanized a mass civic participation in addressing very basic but neglected issues. Through this in the last 25 years, Goonj brought a transformative connection between the two problems bringing a single funnel for rural poverty and the surplus of one side to solve the paucity of other.
