Story from the Ground

Dhunaguri Pait village, Assam- Community Builds Bamboo Bridge to Stay Connected During Assam’s Monsoon
In a small village in Assam, rising water levels and damaged pathways cut off a section of the village every year, making even routine activities difficult. When Goonj mobilised villagers to come together, they decided to draw upon their own resources, skills, and local wisdom to build a bamboo bridge. This story offers an insight into what community-led resilience can look like in practice.
Chaupal 2026 – Many colours and reflections from across India

We bring you a few reflections from Chaupal 2026, shared by Saloni Malhotra, Niranjana Venkatakrishnan, and Vijaya Kaveri. With Material, Money Matters.
We marked International Menstrual Hygiene Day (28 May) in May, with a story series harvested from over two decades of our work with women, other menstruators and community as a whole through Goonj’s 4A framework: Access, Affordability, Awareness, and Action around Menstruation.
We know that menstrual wellbeing shapes and connects deeply with women’s dignity, health, education, mobility, water, sanitation, and social equity. It deeply shapes the everyday realities for the most vulnerable, facing economic poverty, disasters, and stigma.
Join us at Menstruation Dialogue 2026 — our annual multisectoral dialogue on an issue still marred by a culture of shame and silence.
