RAHAT COVID

(Situation on the Ground)

With the country in the throes of the second wave of COVID, amidst rising incidences of virality that’s plaguing the nation, we as a nation are in grim shape.

GOONJ- with its well-equipped team, and wealth of experience is reaching out to our communities in a timely manner, keeping the COVID guidelines in mind.

OUR APPROACH

Decentralise, localise, customise
Respond to needs emerging from the ground. Work with local vendors, partners and volunteers to listen to what’s happening on ground, understand and fulfil the needs of the neglected
communities.

Empowering PartnershipsEmpower and fill gaps in the work of our time tested partners, listen to them, stand with them, give voice and visibility to their challenges.

Focus on neglected communitiesFocus and Engage with ignored communities such as transgenders, sex workers, patients, daily wage workers, institutions like old agehomes, etc. who need immediate supply of ration, hygieneessentials, masks, gloves, medical kits etc.

Filling the gapsFilling the gaps in ongoing Covid work of other startups, non profits and individual efforts to ensure a stronger, a more comprehensive response.

THROUGH THE LENS OF COVID IN 2020

Our 2020 ‘Dignity for Work’ approach took us on the following path in the pandemic

  • Decentralise, localise, customise

Catering to the diversity of India, we created partnerships to work with grassroot stakeholders in the rural areas, prioritising the voice and agency of local people.

  • Economic Empowerment and partnerships

Stakeholders were given vocational training to make masks, and pads in the rural areas to generate livelihood. We bought directly from farmers, to enable their sustenance, and included theirproduce in our ration kits for DFW intiative.

  • Focus on neglected communities

Neglected communities such as tribals, people with disabilities, sex workers, transgender, devadasis etc. are oftentimes struggling for survival. We focused on these communities to ensure that they were not left behind during the same.

“With the country bearing witness to the second wave of Covid and one of the most serious health crises of all times, it is time to step up and come forward to pitch in wherever we can.

As a continuation of our Covid work from last year, this year, apart from working on large scale food distribution, provision of other essentials and livelihood generation, we are widening our interventions for sometime by includng PPE kits, oxygen cylinders, masks, and other support through direct cash transfers or otherwise.

You can contribute to Goonj here – https://goonj.org/donate/ ; Feel free to write back to us on [email protected] for any further queries..”

Also post Covid, hygiene and nutrition has become all the more important. Thus as and when the stuation on ground normalises our focus will be to work large-scale around water, sanitation, hygiene and to promote kitchen gardens etc. Our strategies, plan of action, and way forward can be foun dhere – https://goonj.org/support-covid-19-affected/ .
