Roots of Resilience: Communities Powering Change Across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
Goonj’s journey in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana began in 2009 through a collaborative response with communities during the Kurnool floods. Since then, we’ve partnered across 32 districts, enabling people-led efforts to turn urban surplus into resources that meet local needs and build lasting assets. This work is grounded in the wisdom, participation, and resourcefulness of communities.
This Regional Report highlights how communities are addressing basic yet overlooked issues across both states. Over 2,400 tonnes of material have been mobilised here over the past 10 years (FY 2014-24), enabling people to take charge—from building local infrastructure to responding to disasters with dignity. The Hyderabad-based Goonj Center of Circularity plays a key role in last-mile implementation.
