Students Fuel People-Led Change at SSN College

What began as a simple initiative turned into a heartwarming testament to student-led social impact. During the Joy of Giving Week (JGW), students at SSN College, led by the passionate members of the NSS club, organised a book fair and a collection drive for Goonj — and they did it with remarkable energy and intention.

The energy on campus was contagious. From mobilising peers to organising logistics, students demonstrated what youth-led civic engagement looks like when rooted in purpose.

Books, Sweets, and Small Acts of Kindness

One of the most endearing moments came when students distributed sweets to contributors — a simple but powerful gesture that honored every act of giving.

This small act didn’t just spread smiles — it fueled participation, inviting more students to contribute to the growing pile of books, clothes, and other essentials that would be repurposed for communities in Requirement.

A Teacher’s Role in Sustaining a Culture of Giving

Behind every strong student-led movement is a mentor who believes in their potential. At SSN College, that person is Kaythri, the teacher who consistently champions collection drives with Goonj.

She inspires students to see giving as a meaningful exchange — one rooted in mutual respect, dignity, and the value of what each person can contribute.

“We need more teachers like her,” one student shared. “She doesn’t just tell us to act — she acts with us.”

Beyond Waste – Creating Circular Solutions with Purpose

The materials collected were not only mindfully curated but also beautifully packed, echoing Goonj’s ethos of dignity in giving. This wasn’t about dumping waste — it was about transforming urban surplus into resources for rural resilience.

With nearly three-fourths of the books sold during the fair, the event proved that circular economy solutions can be both impactful and people-powered — when rooted in empathy and organised with purpose.

From Campus Corridors to Community Resilience

What happened at SSN College during JGW is more than a campus activity. It’s a blueprint for grassroots innovations that combine joy, dignity, and systemic change.

In a world that often underestimates the role of youth, this drive proved that people-led change starts with everyday actions — one book, one contribution, and one sweet at a time.
