In Baghchuk village, Dhukuakhana block, Lakhimpur district, Ms. Gitanjali Doley has always had a passion for stitching—repairing clothes, crafting blouses, and creating traditional wear. But without the right tools, her skills remained limited to small, makeshift setups.
Living with her elder brother, a daily wage worker, she hesitated to ask for financial assistance, knowing he also had a family to care for. Yet, her determination never faded.
Through Goonj’s Vaapsi Initiative, Gitanjali received a stitching machine—an essential tool that turned her aspirations into reality.
Sewing a Future with Dignity & Self-Reliance
With her own stitching machine, Gitanjali has expanded her work. This income marks the beginning of her financial independence.
- Her goal? To one day open her own shop and expand her business.
- Her inspiration? The ability to live independently without dependence on anyone else.
