When Children Reconnect with Learning Through Play
In the heart of Vijayanagar district’s Siddapura village, something shifted at the Government Higher Primary School—without new buildings or major infrastructure. Just a day of creative freedom.
As part of Goonj’s School to School (S2S) initiative, over 150 students participated in a day of hands-on, joy-filled activities designed to encourage expression and build confidence. With the support of their teachers, students stepped into spaces where their ideas mattered: drawing, playing musical chairs, or participating in simple team games that allowed them to lead, collaborate, and explore.
Building Confidence, One Activity at a Time
This wasn’t about performance, it was about participation. Children, often shy or hesitant in traditional academic settings, found new ways to express themselves. The day wasn’t built around lectures or tests, but around movement, laughter, and the assurance that their voice had space. Teachers stood alongside, encouraging and guiding, not instructing.
As students worked in groups, reflected through art, and shared stories, they experienced something vital: the joy of learning without fear.

What a School Kit Really Offers
At the end of the session, each student was rewarded a Goonj School Kit—not as a gift, but as a token of recognition for their participation. These kits, thoughtfully compiled using contributed urban surplus, symbolise something larger than stationery. They carry the idea that when communities bridge gaps—from urban surplus to rural classrooms—learning becomes more accessible, and dignity remains intact.
The School to School initiative doesn’t just aim to channelize material—it seeks to reconnect children with the process of learning, using engagement and expression as the foundation.
