Setting the Stage for Togetherness

In the heart of Mehdipatnam Military Garrison, a day of creativity unfolded—bringing together women, children, and Goonj Hyderabad for a session centered on connection and contribution. The space, thoughtfully prepared by military officers, radiated warmth—echoed by the welcoming presence of Mrs. Kulkarni, a key anchor of welfare activities at the garrison.

A Small Hiccup, A Bigger Lesson

As children gathered for the Gullak painting activity, a logistical glitch emerged—there weren’t enough gullaks or brushes for everyone. What could’ve disrupted the day instead sparked something beautiful. With assistance from the Goonj team, the children turned to sharing and collaboration.

Working in groups, they co-painted their Gullaks, assisting one another and learning—through action—about empathy, teamwork, and inclusion.

Painting a Gullak, Building a Value

Each painted Gullak wasn’t just an art piece—it became a symbol of collective contribution. The children were introduced to the idea of saving and giving, not out of charity, but as a way of participating in a shared journey. Their creativity met purpose, as they imagined how their Gullaks could support others like them—creating a circle of care.

Knowing Goonj – Beyond the Brushstrokes

Parallel to the painting session, the “Knowing Goonj” interaction evolved into a space of open dialogue. Parents and children engaged with the Goonj team, learning about its people-led initiatives, circular solutions, and focus on dignity in development.

Curious questions flowed; thoughtful reflections emerged.

A Day to Remember

As the day drew to a close, rows of colorfully adorned Gullaks stood proudly. More than their visual beauty, they held stories of collaboration and intent. Captured moments of laughter, conversation, and connection told the story of a community that came together—creatively and consciously.

This wasn’t just a day of painting. It was a day of participation, where every brushstroke became a reminder of what shared action looks like—joyful, inclusive, and full of purpose.
