A Volunteer from Uttarakhand Who Turned Memory into Meaningful Action
Based in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, Mr. Sunil Anand turned a personal loss into a purpose-driven journey. After the passing of his wife—who had long wished to be associated with Goonj—Sunil ji took it upon himself to fulfil her dream through sustained, grassroots action.
He now runs a permanent material collection (dropping) centre from his residence. But his involvement extends far beyond logistics. During Joy of Giving Week (JGW), he initiated multiple independent campaigns across new locations, spreading awareness and expanding Goonj’s reach with quiet determination.
One New Cloth” – A Simple Request, A Powerful Thought
During JGW, Sunil ji encouraged contributors to go one step further: Along with used clothes, bring one piece of new cloth.
He broadcasted this message not only at public camps but also through his regular contributor network connected to his dropping centre. This conscious nudge carried on throughout the month of October, reflecting a meaningful shift in how people engage with giving.
Everyday Gifting with Purpose – Spreading Green By Goonj in Daily Life
Sunil ji didn’t stop at collection drives. He began actively promoting Green by Goonj (GBG) products, integrating them into his own life:
- Regular contributors received Goonj Jholas and keyrings as tokens of appreciation—purchased by him, not as rewards, but as acknowledgements.
- Birthdays and anniversaries in his circle now feature gifts drawn from GBG’s product line—replacing transactional gifting with conscious, meaningful giving.
Quiet Leadership, Lasting Inspiration
Sunil ji’s story is a reminder that impactful change doesn’t always come from scale—it often starts from intent. His approach is not about doing more, but about doing thoughtfully—bringing in value, awareness, and continuity.
For Goonj, Sunil ji represents what it means to be a partner in change—someone who listens, adapts, and builds quietly but meaningfully.
“Not every contribution is measured in numbers. Some are measured in mindset.”
