A Small Effort Can Bring a Smile to Someone’s Face
When devastating floods hit multiple regions of Bihar’s Supaul district, the destruction was widespread. Homes, farms and livelihoods were washed away. The district administration declared 264 wards across 41 panchayats in five blocks as flood-affected. Thousands of families were forced to abandon their homes in search of temporary shelter. According to media reports, this flood was the worst in the last 60 years. Despite ongoing relief efforts, reaching out to the affected people remained a significant challenge.

In response, the local NGO Gyan Seva Bharti Sansthan, committed to its humanitarian duties, collaborated with Goonj to extend relief to the worst-hit areas, including Nauwa Bakkhar and Borha villages in Kishanpur block. The Goonj team witnessed the devastating impact of the flood firsthand—families stranded, children left without clothes, and essential supplies in dire shortage.

To address immediate needs, Goonj reached out with ration kits to those trapped in floodwaters. The relief efforts were deeply appreciated by the local community, who saw this as a much-needed gesture of empathy and solidarity.
