This one-act is not only shameless but fundamentally wrong at so many levels

This one-act is not only shameless but fundamentally wrong at so many levels; treating women as second-grade human beings and citizens and violating their human rights and dignity. Forcing women to remove their panties to see if they are menstruating is also a telling comment on how the taboos around “purity & “impurity” in menstruation are still so deeply rooted in our society. The fact that this bigotry surfaced in the campus is especially disturbing as campuses are meant to be a safe place where women feel empowered.
For every woman and for anyone working on menstruation and around empowering women, this is a powerful reminder, of why for a woman, her menstruation and her dignity are closely intertwined, and more importantly on how much more work do we need to do to empower women to say NO to such indignities.
