When was the last time you visited a park and sat quietly on a bench, observing your surroundings in peace? Benches in public space are very useful…inviting any passer-by to sit and relax. In villages, people from different backgrounds use benches to spend time together, thus acting as a silent community builder..
Motivated by Goonj, over 260 residents of Bandhan village in Palghar district of Maharashtra decided to make willow benches, using locally available bamboo, dried bamboo leaves, and wood. Carefully looking at aspects like maximum accessibility, shade, etc. they then installed these at bus stops, near Aanganwadi and school premises.. “Such beautiful and useful benches!!” shared a pregnant woman while waiting outside an Anganwadi center. Everyone who took part in this work was awarded with Goonj Family Kits for their efforts. To know more about our work, log on to www.goonj.org/cfw
