‘Valuing the many possibilities of Cloth’

and much more…
We mark 18th February as Cloth Day, celebrating the many possibilities of cloth. Goonj was born on this day, 27 years ago, with the purpose of bringing attention to the basic but ignored need of the humble piece of cloth. The past 2+ decades of our journey opened up a world of insights about Cloth as dignity, need, livelihood and so much more. This is why we dedicated our Founding Day to celebrate Cloth — and its many possibilities for people’s wellbeing.
Cloth Day is initiated by Goonj but it belongs to everyone because Cloth Belongs to Everyone..
From Waste to A Possibility for Humanity

In India, cloth has never been just material. From khadi to everyday lives, it has stood for self-reliance, dignity, and belonging. This Cloth Day, this twelve min read invites us to value and celebrate cloth as a powerful social and climate resource, not waste.
