It will hopefully also create a livelihood for women selling the saplings in local markets!

20 women of local self-help group of Bamdiha village in Jhargam took the lead in sourcing and creating a nursery with 4700+ seeds of different vegetables such as brinjal, green leaf, chilly, gourd, tomato etc. To prepare the soil for the saplings they first created a structure and covered it with polythene while they also made a boundary to protect the nursery from wild animals. Our teams mobilised, motivated and stood with these women and rewarded all participants with carefully made Goonj Family Kits!

The nursery will reduce local communities’ dependence on forest resources for fuel and fodder while providing easy access to high-yield, nutritious vegetables for the local women and their families. It will hopefully also create a livelihood for women selling the saplings in local markets!
