Soon after 2018 floods in Kerala

Soon after 2018 floods in Kerala when our teams started working extensively with different communities to revive local livelihood, women were the first to show up.. setting up stitching and snacks units, meals shops, etc with Goonj.

Three friends – Sindhu, Santhamma, and Gitanjali were running a small catering business serving meals for marriages in Kottayam, district of Kerala. When floods badly affected their business it marred their dreams of scaling up to add breakfast to their menu. Team Goonj decided to support their work and provided multiple Idiyappam makers to this enterprising trio. Today not only has the business grown but these women have also become economically self-reliant breadwinners for their families. Santhamma has started driving classes and pocket money for her daughter without depending on her husband while Geetanjali is supporting her daughter’s Nursing school studies. Next in line is the supplying of Idiyappams to nearby shops and hostels.

Even today people in 8 states are struggling after the recent floods. Your material and money can make a BIG difference to Goonj’s rehabilitation work for these people. With Material, Money Matters: bit.ly/FloodsInIndia
