GOONJ wins ‘Most innovative development project’ award..

Dear Friends,

A happy moment for us. GOONJ’s ‘Cloth for work’ initiative recently won the prestigious ‘Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project’ in a worldwide search and selection!! It is certainly an important step towards establishing old clothes and other material as a powerful development resource, instead of just being considered as traditional charitable object!! Thanks to all for being with us..

Many people still have a big misconception that GOONJ collects and distribute clothes.. NO !! we are not doing that.. This is a movement, using discard and second hand material of the cities for the development of villages.. People get into local development work: from repairing of roads to digging up wells & making bamboo bridges and then are rewarded with material. Cloth for work is not about the donor’s pride, it’s about the receiver’s dignity!!

Appeal for Assam & Uttarakhand floods relief work;

Both the states are going through one of the most devastating floods. Like many previous disasters, GOONJ is geared for immediate relief and long term work in the area. Do treat this urgent and join the campaign for raising material and monetary resources.  Please refer-  http://goonj.org/?page_id=1101 for a detailed appeal.

Last but not the least, our sincere thanks to 100 people who have joined Team 2000, Goonj’s first ever effort to create a pool to sustain our growth.  Here is a simple form- http://www.goonj.org/Team_2000_Form.doc Do join us!! Though we are way behind the target, but I’m sure it will be a reality this year!!

More about our activities below.. Happy reading!!!

With best,

Anshu
